THE TORCH TOUR ACROSS THE U.K. – A GREAT EVENT FOR A GREAT NATION!
The nation has been waiting for the great event of our lifetime – the torch tour of the UK. Lit in Greece on 18th May 2012, the torch travelled on an exclusive aeroplane with Princess Anne with David Beckham and Lord Coe, who brought it to the south coast. The UK tour began on 19th May and will end of 27th July, when the opening ceremony will start.
1, 019 communities in the UK and N Ireland will be involved in seeing the great sight of the torch as it travels the nation. The journey began in Land’s End, Cornwall on May 19th and will end in Guildford on 27th July, bringing the 70 day tour to an end.
8 000 torchbearers, represented by the holes on each torch will proudly carry the flame across the nation. The torch was lit from the sun’s rays in the Temple of Hera in Olympia, Greece, the home of the Olympics, the home of the torch.
Every four years, it is delivered to the host nation, this time, 2012, the UK, to represent peace, unity and friendship, a gift from Greece.
The torch will eventually mark the start of the Olympics when games begin on 27th July.
