The Olympic Torch comes through Calne…
On Wednesday 23rd May, our academy will line the streets to watch as the torch begins its journey through Calne.
Our reporting team will be bringing you the latest news of the event soon.
The flame comes to Springfields
On the 23th of May 10:45am, the Olympic torch went past the academy. At 9:00am all the classes went to their first lessons as usual (except year 9 and 7 who were busy putting out chairs for the assembly to follow). Then at a quarter to ten we had an early break for fifteen minutes.
The assembly followed break-time in which we had a quiz on the Olympic torch, and prizes were won. One by one the pupils made their way out onto the streets in tutor groups. Once on the streets, they were given flags and bunting, awaiting the torch tour of Calne. Six minutes later , it arrived at the academy.
A member of the school community said, “it made me feel proud of my country”. The convoy of vehicles went past slowly, but the torch went past so fast the pupils couldn’t see it for long.
Over all, every one really enjoyed the special moment and it was a once in a lifetime opportunity for all to see.
